Healing Soul Trauma

Wounds caused by deep trauma effect our subtle energy bodies as well as our psyches and physical bodies, this trauma can feel like a tear or rip in our very being or a deep sense of loss and disconnection from life.  A feeling of overwhelming grief that cannot be healed no matter how the person tries.

Traumatic events in our lives can cause our spirits to literally leave our physical bodies, shamanic practitioners call this Soul Loss.  Modern psychiatry may call it Post Traumatic Stress.

The original trauma can be caused by many things, maybe childhood abuse, the loss of a loved one, an accident, a violent event or the effects of war.  These traumas force our soul part to flee the traumatic event in order to cope with the overwhelming feelings of danger, violation or horror, it is a way our spirit can find safety.  But later on, when the traumatised person tries to get on with business of living, their soul part is still lost and they feel disorientated and disconnected, fearful, grief ridden, unable to connect to the world around them, unable to feel fully "alive".

Trauma then speaks through the delicate subtle nuances of our bodies, and the traumatised individual can become prone to ill health and increasingly distant from those around them, angry and fearful.  They may lash out at those that try to help and see this as prying into their vulnerable shells and they can lose friends and loved ones.

The traumatised individual may try to fill the hole where his or her lost soul part once lived with food, alcohol, through shopping and sexual addiction, just to feel something again, but to no avail and thus alienating themselves further from life with a deeper sense of original trauma replaying over and over again in their energy body.

Trauma sufferers live in its perpetual grip with anguish, with fearful hearts, gliding through the motions of a day without grounding, without connection.  Becoming introspective, exhausted and depressed, some to the point of suicide.

How Can Shamanic Soul Retrieval Help Soul Loss Trauma

The shamanic approach to Soul Loss is that a lost soul part can be returned to the traumatised person and placed back into their body and energy system through what the shamanic practitioner calls Soul Retrieval.

The shamanic practitioner will journey to the spirit world and speak with the original trauma of the client.  Then they will see in spirit, what the trauma looks like in the energy system of the client, this may be in the form of dark energy matter, holes, shadow or fading.  The shamanic practitioner will then go to the original scene of trauma and seek out the lost soul part and speak with it, negotiating its return with the use of spirit allies or by explaining to the lost soul part that it is lost and needs to return to the owner.  The shamanic practitioner will then bring back the soul part from spirit and blow it back into the client in this reality, through the clients heart and crown chackras. Some clients feel the soul return instantly, with a sense of intense warmth and intensity, for others it is more subtle and may take so time to be felt.

After a Soul Retrieval a client may feel emotional and disorientated, and the shamanic practitioner will explain to them what has happened and will give the client time to re-adjust to this new found sense of self.  The shamanic practitioner will encourage their client to communicate with their retrieved self, either through dialogue or through letter format and ask their retrieved self what it is they need to make them feel safe and nurtured. Some clients feel a renewed sense of childlike wander as their retrieved parts ask for them to become more playful and creative.  Many traumatised soul parts seek nurturing, protection and love from their whole self.

The effects of a Soul Retrieval can be instantaneous or may take some time to come into fruition.  The shamanic practitioner will support the client in this process, journeying into the spirit world further to see what she or the client can do to facilitate the healing further.

Soul Retrievals can also be numerous and some clients can need several if trauma has been prolonged or frequent.  Each time a lost soul part returns, profound healing takes place.

The results of soul retrievals are beautiful and long lasting, usually a traumatised person has tried many avenues to get help with their situation.  The wonderful thing about soul retrieval is that the client does not have to revisit the original wound or trauma unlike in psychotherapy, which can re-traumatise them.

As a shamanic practitioner i have been honoured to facilitate many soul retrievals and have seen first-hand the deep healing that takes place.  It never ceases to be a source of great inspiration and joy to reunite a person with themselves and see the magic unfold.
